Prof. Humberto Michinel Head of the Optics Lab	Welcome to the optics laboratory of the University of Vigo at Ourense Campus. In this site you can see what we do and why we are so passionate about it. The optics lab was founded in 2000 and we work in the the field of photonics and laser technologies, one of the most active and productive scientific areas since the invention of lasers in 1960. Our interest is focussed on the different properties and applications of laser light, from fundamental theories to technological developements.
	We investigate the interaction of light with matter from cold atoms to nonlinear wave propagation and from photonic crystals to metrological and industrial applications of lasers. This has given us the possibility of cooperating with some of the best laboratories in the world as well as with hi-tec companies which develope new laser technologies. One of our major concerns is education of future researchers: we are in charge of coordinating the Master Course in "Photonics and Laser Technologies" given by the universities of Vigo, Santiago de Compostela and A Coruña. The Master is a good opportunity for young graduates to approach the vast world of laser applications: from optical telecommunications to metrological techniques or from biomedical applications to the use of lasers in industry.
